2024 Conference & AGM

2024 AGM & Conference - April 11-14, 2024 BUILDING A FUTURE WITH NATURAL WOOD - BCLTBIA CONFERENCE 2024

This Spring’s conference was held along the peaceful shores shores of Shuswap Lake at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmon Arm. The facility offered great outdoor and indoor space for training sessions, with plenty of amazing meals to keep us well-nourished throughout the weekend. Our members gathered to network and learn the latest in our trade, presenters came well-equipped with informative content, and our sponsors were very generous in their support of the industry. Several families joined in for this year’s event, which is a testament to our commitment to community. We are proud to cultivate a supportive and non-competitive environment; as a small scale industry, we rely on working together to overcome any challenge.

The Conference opened with a warm welcome from Chief Irvin Wai of the Neskonlith Indian Band and Alan Harrison, Mayor of Salmon Arm. Our schedule included: The BC Timber Sales Value-added Manufacturing Program and Timber Sale Licence Requirements with Richard Timm; Lock Out and Safeguarding with Willi Moore of WorkSafe BC; Occupational Health & Safety Workshop with Paula Hughes & Peter Sperlich; Marketing Opportunities with Aria Hahn; Payroll Costs and Updates for 2024 with Paula Hughes; Program and Benefits to Retain a Healthy Staff with Brad Case; Tool Demonstrations; Hands on Picnic Table Assembly with Caius Durfeld & Charles Lebouvier; Education and Training – Exploring Needs for Log & Timber Builders with Maik Gehloff & Sean Goldie; Blacksmith Demonstration with Patrick McIvor; Building Code Seminar-Log Homes and Performance Building Codes with Mark Bernhardt & Kelly Marciniw; Log Wall Assembly Energy Testing with Peter Sperlich & Rob Wheeler; Contractor’s Manual Review with Peter Sperlich; KenEn Technology Kick Off with Dai Ona; Insurance – Round Table Discussions with Connie Rowley, Brian McClean & Rea Pottris; Truss Building Design Theory, Analysis, Testing and Competition with Maik Gehloff and Jianhui Zhou; Dietrich’s Version 24 Update Training with Wil Dancey; Annual Auction featuring a great many useful and sought after items; and the AGM.

This year, we also introduced a unique artistic event to unite participants; a blank canvas with the opportunity to paint a space of choice was presented on the patio overlooking the lake. Over the course of an afternoon, our attendees painted their definition of ‘A Reflection on the Conference’, each keeping their contribution secret from one another. The painting was then unveiled on the final night of conference.

A huge thank you goes our to our Sponsors: Westrend, Canada’s Log & Wood Home Store, F3 Timber Technologies, The Sansin Corporation, Mafell, Core Canada Insurance Solutions, Dietrich’s, Rothoblaas, and Simpson Strong-Tie. Many thanks to all who donated to the auction and to all who purchased items. A special thank you to all who took the time out to attend the conference; life and work are busy, so we appreciate your efforts to book this annual event into your schedule! We look forward to seeing you all next year
