Building it Green

Log and timber building is a very significant part of the rural BC economy. In 1997 a Provincially-funded survey showed us adding $272.00 per cubic meter in value to harvested timber, employing 1,800 people and selling $114 million in products, of which 83% was through export. The numbers would be substantially higher today, given the continued growth of the industry, and expanding markets.Combined, we employ equal numbers to some of the major licensees, yet provide greater local economic stability. It takes about 110 cubic meters of wood to keep one log or timber builder busy for one year, compared to roughly 2000 cubic meters per person in the mills.

Action in these areas are being carried out through the volunteer efforts of our Board of Directors and Committees. We are a self-funded organization. The LTBI is committed to growing this unique sector of the BC economy through the efforts of our Association, and we invite you to join us.Action in these areas are being carried out through the volunteer efforts of our Board of Directors and Committees.
