Island School of Building Arts

The West Coast of British Columbia is big wood country. This natural resource supports a vibrant Log and Timber construction industry and the Island School of Building Arts (ISBA) is in the middle of it all. Nestled in the heart of the Gulf Islands, Gabriola is situated between the metropolis of Vancouver and the wilds of the West Coast of Canada.

ISBA students train for an industry that understands the added value that comes with timberframe and log construction, and the amateur home builder who wants to learn the skills to make their own home a reality. We are currently registering students for Fall 2018 Log Building, Timber Frame Post and Beam and Timber Frame Hammer Bents courses, as well as the two SketchUp for Timber Framers computer drafting workshops.

ISBA supplies all tools and experienced instructors teach the theory behind the practical in the classroom, the shop and the yard. The three Big Wood courses are offered in both Spring and Fall sessions and information on the school and upcoming schedules can be found at www.isba.ca. Upon completion of each 160 hour course, students receive a Skills Evaluation and Certificate, backed by ISBA’s 22 year reputation and recognized by Industry around the world.
